Davido’s story has become the standard for Nigerian privileged kids who aim to forge a path of their own. Popular A&R expert, Bankulli took to Twitter to share the story of how Davido’s music career started with a freestyle session in US, years ago.
The A&R expert made a concise two-tweets thread about how Davido took the opportunity of his (Bankulli’s) delayed flight, to make an impression. He also included the part played by B-Red and Shina Rambo in his inspiring post.
According to him, himself and some others were to travel to Los Angeles for the shoot of D’banj’s ‘Mr Endowed’ video which was one of the first steps to the international penetration of African music, because US rapper, Snoop Dogg was featured on the song. The flight of the team was delayed for 5 hours and they were at Davido’s father’s LA home where the then aspiring singer shot his shot by freestyling to them in a bid to impress them with his talent.
Years after the incident, Davido picked up his music career and he has grown it to the point of super stardom with countless accolades and loads of money as testaments to his success. Bankulli’s story is not one that is commonly told but it is important that it is, because it would help in the proper documentation of Davido’s success story especially now that his music has become a thing of continental pride.
